What makes the Dutch market different
Dutch hockey is a compact market built around the cross-border BeNe League (CEHL) and the Eredivisie. Roster and import rules depend on the club and the competition format, so timing and a defined role matter more than the wish to play in the Netherlands.
Levels under consideration
The BeNe League (CEHL) and the Eredivisie differ in budget, pace and profile requirements. For a junior, age eligibility, expected ice time, schooling and accommodation also matter. See the Hockey in Netherlands country guide for league structure and official sources.
Work before outreach
- match the player to a realistic level;
- check statistics, video and Elite Prospects;
- confirm citizenship, contract and playing rights;
- define a role that can be presented clearly;
- select relevant clubs instead of mass emailing.
Why the passport matters but is not decisive
Citizenship affects work rights, registration and import status. For a professional athlete from outside the EU/EEA, a work-based permit and the specific requirements must be checked against the Dutch authorities (IND) and the individual contract. Administrative convenience cannot compensate for a sporting mismatch.
The player package
- current statistics and team role;
- an accurate Elite Prospects profile;
- short highlights and a full game;
- position, age, measurements and shot;
- passport, contract status and availability;
- realistic level and contract expectations.
Possible assessment outcomes
An honest assessment may lead to outreach, but it may also recommend a different target league, updated video or another season proving the level elsewhere. That is more useful than promising the Netherlands when the current profile has no verified market.
Official reference points
League, transfer and immigration rules change. Confirm the current season with the club, federation and competent authority. EHA cannot guarantee a contract or registration.

FAQ
Can a club in The Netherlands be guaranteed?
No. The club decides, and availability depends on its roster and the season.
Are non-EU players considered?
The possibility depends on level, role and immigration route and must be checked for the specific club.
Are highlights or a full game more important?
Both are useful: highlights give a quick overview, while a full game shows decisions and consistency.
