League structure
The Norwegian federation’s 2026/27 schedule list uses the current senior names:
- Elitehockeyligaen — top national senior level
- Hockeyliga1 — second national senior level
The federation also publishes U20, U18 and lower senior competitions in HockeyLive.
Comparing levels
Level matters more than the country name. Clubs compare pace, age, role, production, video and the quality of previous competition.
Where an import can be considered
A league listing is not proof of a vacancy or eligibility. The club must confirm the role and the current rules for the player’s exact status.
Top-level roles require clear evidence of professional-level value.

Age and citizenship
Junior players are assessed on development potential, eligibility, education, housing and expected ice time. Senior players need a role they can perform immediately. Citizenship affects administration, not the sporting standard.
EU versus non-EU passport
An EU/EEA passport may simplify the employment route. A third-country national usually needs additional residence or work formalities confirmed before travel.
Transfer, registration, visa and work
- Transfer: an international move normally follows the current IIHF transfer process.
- Registration: the club confirms federation and league requirements.
- Residence: the player needs a lawful basis for the intended stay.
- Work: the contract and immigration status must permit the activity.
Norway is in the EEA but not the EU. Third-country nationals should verify the work-immigration route with UDI.

When clubs build rosters
The main roster-building window is generally April to August. Individual needs can appear later because of injuries, budget changes or roster adjustments.
Stats and video clubs need
- current Elite Prospects and verifiable statistics;
- team, league, role and availability;
- recent highlights with clear identification;
- full-game or full-shift footage;
- citizenship and contract status.
A club should understand the player’s level and role quickly.
