01

League position and verified status

Pro Hokei Ligasy is the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation's own national senior championship, separate from Barys's participation in the multinational KHL. Verify the current club field in the official 2026/27 season table before acting — older line-ups should not be carried forward.

02

Club funding and import openness

Since 2025, clubs have been prohibited from funding import players from state or quasi-state budgets. This changes the picture club by club rather than league-wide: openness to an import now depends on each club's private financial backing, not a single published quota. Ask the specific club how its roster is funded before assuming a spot is realistic.

03

What clubs assess

Clubs assess previous league strength, skating, decision speed, physical readiness, play away from the puck, role, special teams, recent video and verified statistics — and the identity of the sporting decision-maker, since a compact market can move quickly once a fit is confirmed.

04

Contract, pay and residence

There is no official unified salary table; compensation depends on league, role, experience, budget and employment status. Put pay, housing, equipment, insurance and termination in writing. Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan may work under an employment contract without a separate work permit as EAEU citizens, though stay and registration requirements still apply; other citizenships fall under Kazakhstan's C3–C6 work-visa categories. See the Kazakhstan country guide for the full EAEU and non-EAEU picture.

05

IIHF transfer and registration

A move from another national association requires an international transfer under IIHF rules. The receiving club must confirm registration deadlines and eligibility for the exact competition; sports clearance does not itself create a right to reside or work.

06

Player application package

Prepare position and shot, birth date, height and weight, citizenship, contract status, current team and league, verifiable statistics, role, video and exact availability. Goalies should include recent full games and context for their numbers.

Official sources and FAQ

Editorial review: 8 August 2026. Recheck the current club field, funding status and immigration rules before acting.

How is Pro Hokei Ligasy different from the KHL in Kazakhstan?

Barys plays in the multinational KHL separately; Pro Hokei Ligasy is the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation's own national senior championship, roughly 10 clubs.

Can state-linked clubs still sign imports?

Since 2025 clubs cannot fund import players from state or quasi-state budgets, so openness now depends on each club's private backing rather than a league-wide rule.

Is an IIHF international transfer required?

Yes, when the player moves from a club or federation in another country.
