European hockey leagues: levels and player routes

How to compare leagues correctly

EHA assessment: import-openness labels are market guidance, not confirmed vacancies, quotas or registration permission. A level number describes a place within the relevant system; the same number in two countries does not mean equal playing strength. Cross-border leagues and North American competitions require separate comparisons.

1. Sporting fit: compare your current league, role, statistics and recent full-game video.
2. Eligibility: open the league guide and confirm current-season rules with the federation. Citizenship, local development and import status are different criteria.
3. Terms: check cash pay, housing and costs using the offer comparison checklist.
4. Readiness: establish the IIHF transfer, domestic registration and right to work before travel.

For an individual assessment, send birth year, position, current team and league, citizenship, statistics and video. Assess suitable leagues →

What to do with the filtered results

Choose a few relevant league guides and compare the actual sporting role, current rules and full costs. Treat an attractive league name as a question to investigate, not proof that the level fits.

• Unsure about your level? Use the level calculator as a first orientation, then review full-game evidence.
• Considering an import route? Read the import-market guide and confirm the current rule for the player.
• Already have an offer? Compare net/gross pay, paid months, housing and expenses.
• Choosing for a child? Start with the parent guide, including school, housing and the family budget.

For official international-transfer documents, use IIHF Rules & Regulations. Domestic eligibility and immigration need their own checks. See how EHA distinguishes official rules from assessments.
