Hockeyettan salary and housing: how to assess a club offer

League position and verified status

HockeyEttan is Sweden’s third national men’s level below HockeyAllsvenskan. The federation’s current 2026/27 league page confirms 40 clubs, split into North and South groups of 20.

2026/27 competition format

Each North and South group plays 38 regular-season rounds. The top six teams in each group qualify for the HockeyEttan playoffs, whose winner is promoted to HockeyAllsvenskan. The bottom four teams in each group enter Play Out.

Clubs and choosing a target

Do not send the same message to every club. Check the current roster, authorised sporting contact, location and whether the team needs the player’s position. A league page narrows the market; it does not prove a vacancy.

What clubs assess

• skating, pace and decisions under pressure;
• a defined position and special-teams role;
• recent verified statistics and contract status;
• full-game or full-shift video, not highlights alone;
• citizenship, transfer history and administrative readiness.

Roster and foreign-player rules

The group structure does not define a foreign-player quota. Current federation rules, ITC status and the club’s eligibility check control registration. Club economics and role are separate.

Recruitment timing and tryouts

Many clubs create varied needs, not automatic places. Target teams individually, verify the authorised contact and never pay an unknown intermediary for an undocumented promise.

Hockeyettan salary: cash, housing and other work

Establish what the club actually offers rather than inferring pay from the division name. Ask whether the package is cash employment, expense reimbursement, benefits or a combination, and what each component depends on. A housing offer is not cash paid to the player.

If outside work is part of the proposal, ask who employs you, which hours are expected, whether income is guaranteed and whether you are authorised to do that work. Do not use an unconfirmed job to make the hockey budget balance. Do not assume HockeyAllsvenskan collective terms apply to a Hockeyettan contract.

Compare the season, not one month: use confirmed net cash across all paid months, then subtract player-paid living and travel costs. Keep conditional bonuses and refundable deposits separate. If only gross pay is known, resolve taxes and deductions before treating it as take-home income.

Residence and right to work

A non-EU/EEA player working for a Swedish club may need the athlete work-permit route. Migrationsverket currently requires salary before tax of at least one third of the price base amount in force when the application is made, together with the other employment and insurance conditions. Statistics Sweden sets the 2026 price base amount at SEK 59,200. This is an immigration threshold, not a HockeyEttan salary benchmark.

IIHF transfer, registration and insurance

A move between national associations follows the current IIHF International Transfer Regulations. The receiving club and associations handle the process. An ITC does not replace domestic registration, a valid contract, insurance or immigration permission. Confirm who starts the transfer and pays each fee before travel.

Player application package

• passport and any second citizenship;
• birth year, position, shot, height and weight;
• current team, league and verified statistics;
• Elite Prospects or federation profile;
• role-based highlights plus a recent full game;
• contract status, release if required and availability;
• the exact league, role and teams being targeted.
