League position and verified status
Denmark’s 1. division is the senior competition below Metal Ligaen and also has a development function. Danmarks Ishockey Union continues to identify 1. division in its competition materials and club information.
2026/27 competition framework
DIU’s official 2026/27 competition regulations confirm that a Divisionen team must list at least seven U21 players on the game report. The competition therefore has a clear development function alongside its senior role. Team count and exact season format should still be taken from the live DIU competition system.
Clubs, U21 requirement and movement from Metal Ligaen
The seven-U21 requirement materially shapes roster construction. DIU also restricts use of players from a club’s top team: a player who appeared in the club’s latest Superisligaen game is generally not eligible for Divisionen, with exceptions for players under 23 on game day and up to three players aged 23 or older. For the playoffs, a player listed in Superisligaen during the season generally needs at least five Divisionen regular-season games; U20 players are exempt from that playoff condition.
What clubs assess
Clubs compare skating pace, decisions under pressure, special-teams value, role, verified recent statistics, full-game video, health, contract status, citizenship and administrative readiness. The application must show value at this exact level, not only career totals.
Roster and foreign-player checks
No universal import limit is safe to publish without the current competition rules and the player’s exact status. The club and federation must confirm in writing how citizenship, registration history, age and roster rules apply on the intended match date.
Recruitment timing and tryouts
DIU’s 2026/27 rules state that a player may be eligible during a try-out period, but that try-out must be completed no later than 1 November in the season. After that date the player is eligible for the club only if a contract has been concluded; a probation clause inside a contract is not treated as the same try-out period.
Contract, pay and housing
There is no official universal salary table for every club. Put gross or net pay, payment dates, taxes, bonuses, housing, deposit, utilities, meals, travel, equipment, insurance, injury protection, trial status, termination and return travel in writing.
Residence and right to work
EU/EEA and third-country citizens follow different immigration and employment routes. Denmark has an athlete/coach scheme for professional sport, but a development-level 1. Division offer should not be assumed to qualify automatically. The club and Danish immigration authority must confirm the lawful work route for the exact contract before travel.
IIHF transfer, DIU registration and insurance
DIU states that an international club change follows the current IIHF transfer rules. The 2026/27 regulation lists a DIU IIHF transfer-card fee of DKK 9,250. A player is not eligible for the new club until DIU has officially approved the change and registered the player in its database. Transfer approval does not replace insurance, immigration permission or a valid agreement.
Player application package
Send passport and any second citizenship; birth year, position, shot, height and weight; current team; verified statistics; Elite Prospects or federation profile; role-based highlights and a recent full game; contract or release status; injury status and exact availability.

This route should be judged by the minutes and development context it can provide, not by a league label alone. For a younger player, a stable senior role can be more useful than sitting on a stronger roster. For an experienced player, the question is whether the club needs leadership, special teams or a bridge into a wider Danish structure.
Clarify whether the position is on the senior team, a development group or a mixed programme. Ask how selection works, what the weekly schedule looks like and what evidence the club expects after the first month. For imports, the economic and administrative package must be realistic: housing, registration, insurance and any work permission should be written down before treating the invitation as a career move.
