3. What to ask the club

Federation documents in the markets above gave no common model for these points, so they are not rated by country. Get each answer in writing.

  • Housing. No federation-wide housing model was found in Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Slovakia or Germany; arrangements are club-level (host family, boarding house or school dormitory). In Switzerland the training-contract template lists housing as an individually negotiated item. In Canada, Hockey Canada publishes baseline billeting standards. Ask who the responsible adult is, where the player sleeps, who handles meals, transport, insurance and emergencies.
  • Total cost. No verified price comparison exists, and none is shown here. Ask for one written total covering programme fees, school, housing, meals, transport, insurance, equipment, travel, registration and transfer, plus refund terms.
  • Real ice time. Ask how many players compete for the position, how often foreign juniors dress for games, and whether there is a path to the older age group or the senior team. This varies by club and season.
  • Junior and senior team link. In Switzerland the U18-Elit and U21-Elit tiers are tied to National League and Swiss League club organisations. For the other markets the fact-checks did not establish a general rule, so ask the club directly.
  • Safeguarding. Ask for the named contact, the club's child-protection policy and the reporting route. A national framework exists in several countries, but implementation is up to each club.

Not sure which route fits?

Send age, position, citizenship, current team and recent video. EHA gives an initial sporting assessment and lists what still needs official confirmation. It is not a guarantee of a place, school admission, housing, visa, registration or a contract.

Frequently asked

Which country is easiest for a foreign junior?

No country is easy in general. The rating above only shows how open each market is to imports; the realistic route depends on birth year, level, citizenship, school and the club.

Why is there no price comparison?

No verified price source exists across these markets, and costs depend on the programme. Ask each club for a written total instead of relying on a country average.

Does a missing restriction mean there is none?

No. Where a fact-check says a restriction was not found, that is absence of evidence, not official confirmation. Confirm with the federation, club and relevant authority.

Is this legal or immigration advice?

No. Requirements change by country and season. Official conditions must be confirmed with the relevant authorities and organisations.
