League position
The Komerční banka extraliga juniorů and Liga juniorů (≈U20) sit above the CCM extraliga staršího dorostu and Liga staršího dorostu (≈U18), run by the Czech Ice Hockey Association (ČSLH). A new bridge tier for players born 2011 (≈U16) starts in 2026/27. Confirm current groups and clubs on ČSLH's own competition pages.
Age and registration
ČSLH's 2026/27 rules (§2, citing čl. 217 odst. 1) define exact birth-date ranges: junioři (≈U20) = born 1 January 2007 – 31 December 2008; starší dorostenci (≈U18) = born 1 January 2009 – 31 December 2010; mladší dorostenci (≈U16, new for 2026/27) = born 2011 only. These are unusually precise, dated ranges — recheck them for the season you are assessing.
What a club evaluates
Clubs assess skating, pace, skills, role, physical readiness, decision-making, full-game shifts and development potential, not highlights alone — the same standard applied across senior hockey.
Foreign players under 18
ČSLH's transfer rules for a club registering a player from abroad simply require a transfer card completed per IIHF regulations, where IIHF regulations require one — no additional Czech-specific restriction on the international transfer of a minor was found, beyond a domestic rule that players under 15 need a notarised legal-guardian signature. Under the IIHF baseline itself, a player under 18 may transfer at any time with no transfer fee, and the general transfer-deadline window does not apply. In practice this makes an under-18 move procedurally lighter than an adult's — but the absence of a found restriction is not the same as an official guarantee that none exists, so confirm current practice with ČSLH before relying on it.
Education alongside hockey
ČSLH's own material states plainly that combining school and elite hockey is not systemically organised in Czechia, unlike some other countries. Primary level relies on club-linked "sportovní třídy"; secondary level depends on ad hoc club-academy partnerships (one named example: Bílí Tygři Liberec). One concrete school with an ice-hockey specialisation and its own talent exam is Sportovní gymnázium Pardubice — confirm current admission terms directly with the school.
Housing and care
No official ČSLH housing or billeting policy for junior players was found. Sportovní gymnázium Pardubice has a general student dormitory open to any enrolled student — a standard school dorm, not a hockey- or federation-specific scheme. Confirm housing, responsible adult and safeguarding arrangements directly with the club.
Recruitment timing
There is no single universal tryout window publicly stated. Request a real assessment schedule, evaluation criteria and decision date directly from the club.
Transfer and registration
The domestic transfer window runs 1 May–31 January of the season; the IIHF international window runs 1 July–15 February, explicitly waived for under-18 transfers. Confirm with the club and ČSLH which window applies to your specific move.
Immigration and travel
Czechia is EU/Schengen; standard EU/EEA-vs-non-EU rules apply. The Interior Ministry's visa-purpose code table lists "Sportovní" as an eligible purpose for a long-term visa; no distinct minor's sport-visa procedure beyond universal minor rules (guardian applies on the child's behalf) was found. Confirm the current route with the Interior Ministry or consulate before booking travel.
Costs and written terms
Do not rely on verbal promises about fees, equipment, housing or travel. Ask for a written breakdown, payment recipient, refund terms and what is conditional on selection.
Player package
Send year of birth, position, height, citizenship, current team, league, statistics, Elite Prospects or federation profile, highlights and a recent full game.
