Levels and age categories

U20, U18 and U16 are reader-friendly approximations here; ČSLH regulations use the Czech category names. Extraliga juniorů and Extraliga staršího dorostu are different age competitions, not the first and second tiers of one league.

Age: base category and exceptions

ČSLH’s 2026/27 base categories are junioři: 2007–2008; starší dorostenci: 2009–2010; mladší dorostenci: 2011. Younger-player and overage eligibility depends on the specific competition rules.

Extraliga juniorů and Liga juniorů separately limit participation by players born in 2009–2010 and provide conditional exceptions for 2006-born players linked to prior registration and playing history. Being born in 2006 alone does not make a new international player eligible. The club checks the full rules, position and player history.

Foreign players and goalies

Important restriction: technical rules, item 4 for Extraliga juniorů and Liga juniorů and item 3 for CCM Extraliga staršího dorostu, allow at most two players in the defined Cizí státní příslušník category per game and prohibit their participation as goalies.

The category is defined through points b) and d) of the relevant ČSLH transfer regulations. Do not infer status from a passport alone: the receiving club and federation must confirm it. Regional and other age competitions require their own rules; a tryout place does not establish eligibility.

Which Czech junior level fits the player?

EHA Assessment: compare the current league, role, skating, decision speed, physical readiness and full shifts with the specific team. Establish eligibility first, then sporting fit.

• Current competition and role: explain the standard of opponents, regular minutes, special-team use and recent changes in role alongside statistics.
• Recent game evidence: send full-game links, jersey number and colour. Skating, decisions under pressure and play without the puck help assess the proposed step.
• Proposed environment: ask which team and training group will assess the player, what feedback will be given and what role the club sees. Expected minutes are a discussion, not a guarantee.
• Family plan: compare school language, housing, supervision and the full family contribution with the sporting option.

A Liga or regional team may merit consideration if training, role and terms fit the player. The Extraliga name does not guarantee development, ice time or a professional contract. Where eligibility or game evidence remains unclear, resolve it before committing to travel or payment.

International transfer under 18

IIHF’s 2026 regulations, I.5, provide for under-18 transfers through the transfer system. The general IIHF deadline in I.4.8 does not apply; a transfer completed before the 18th birthday is exempt from the transfer fee under I.5.1. This does not remove other costs or domestic restrictions.

The club and ČSLH confirm playing-rights history, consents, documents, registration and eligibility for the competition. Also agree school, housing, adult responsibility and insurance before travel.

School and language

Check the specific school and hockey programme. A team invitation does not confirm admission, English-language teaching, timetable compatibility or a dormitory place.

• School, programme, admission documents and deadlines.
• Teaching language and support for international students.
• Travel to the rink, exams and match-related absence.
• School arrangements if selection fails or the player changes teams.

EHA practical guidance: request the school’s admission decision and start date separately from the team’s decision. Compare a sample school week with training and away-game travel, and agree who handles language support and communication with teachers. If admission is still pending, record a fallback before committing to the move.

School and education abroad

Housing and safeguarding

Separately confirm the address, room, dates, meals, deposit, transport and holiday accommodation. For a minor, document the responsible adult, emergency contact and parental consents. School dormitory accommodation is not automatically included in a hockey programme.

EHA practical guidance: ask who supervises the player after practice, at night and during school holidays, and how the family can report a concern. Record the housing provider’s cancellation terms if the player is injured, not selected or leaves the team. A room offer does not itself establish the responsible adult’s legal authority.

Tryouts, registration and timing

Before buying tickets, agree the age category, team, coach, training dates, payment, insurance and decision date. Distinguish a commercial camp from assessment for a roster place.

Transfer, domestic registration and later-stage eligibility are separate checks. Technical regulations include games-played requirements and exceptions, including conditions linked to 31 December 2026. A late transfer does not automatically provide playoff or qualification eligibility. ČSLH confirms the player-specific deadlines.

What happens if the tryout does not lead to selection?

EHA practical guidance: agree the assessment length, decision-maker and feedback date. Record whether the invitation is for a camp, a team trial or a conditional sporting offer, and which conditions remain unresolved.

• Confirm accommodation and insurance through the decision date.
• Agree refund terms and who pays for the return trip or extra nights.
• Keep an alternative school and hockey plan if the move does not proceed.
• If a place is offered, confirm the exact team, written costs and registration responsibilities before accepting the practical arrangements.

For players with Russian and Belarusian passports

Russian and Belarusian citizenship: Czechia restricts visa and residence applications at its diplomatic missions abroad. Defined exceptions apply; a hockey-club invitation or ordinary school admission is not itself an exception.

Certain Belarusian students may apply if they hold one of the scholarships listed by the Foreign Ministry. This is not a general permission for all Belarusian school pupils. A second citizenship should not be treated as an automatic exemption: the Ministry expressly addresses dual nationality.

If the player already lives in Czechia, establish what the current status permits, how it can be extended and whether a change of residence purpose is needed. A permit issued by another country does not establish a right to spend the full season in Czechia.

Age and competition-specific foreign-player restrictions, including goalie restrictions, still apply. Before relocation is agreed, the club and ČSLH confirm sporting eligibility and the competent authority confirms the immigration route.

Residence: sport and education

The Czech Interior Ministry describes the long-term sports visa for professional activity in professional competitions with the required remuneration; amateur competitions are excluded from that basis. It cannot be promised to any junior with a team invitation.

For an education route, establish whether the programme qualifies as studies under §64 or as other educational activities. The school, Ministry and consulate confirm the appropriate basis for the player’s citizenship, age and documents. Transfer and immigration status remain separate.

Season budget and written terms

This review has no verified universal price. Obtain a club-specific CZK budget for hockey, school, housing, meals, transport, insurance, equipment and travel. EHA service terms are agreed separately.

• Club fees: ice, coaching, games and tournaments.
• School, housing, deposit, utilities and meals.
• Transport, flights, equipment, insurance and medical costs.
• Registration, transfer-related costs and the payer for each item.
• Refunds, injury, unsuccessful selection and early departure.

Record the amount, currency, period and payment recipient. If the club covers some expenses, state the remaining family contribution separately.

Make two offers comparable

EHA practical guidance: separate one-off charges from monthly payments and use the same number of months for each option. Include deposits, holiday accommodation, return travel and charges that remain payable after an early departure. Ask whether each deposit is refundable and under what conditions; do not count a verbal promise as a covered cost.

1. Send the profile. Birth date, position, height and weight, shot, current team and league, statistics and Elite Prospects if available. Add recent full-game links and the jersey number and colour. If video is not yet available, say so.
2. Explain the goal. Target season, relocation timing, contract status, budget, school and housing needs. Add these details in the form’s “Additional information” field. Passport scans are not needed.
3. Understand the next step. EHA explains which directions merit consideration, what material is missing and whether further work with the profile is possible.
